Nakanoin Michizumi (中院通純)

Michizumi NAKANOIN (September 23, 1612 - March 7, 1653) was a Kugyo (court noble) during the early and the middle of the Edo period. His father was Michimura NAKANOIN, Naidaijin (Minister of the Center). His mother was a daughter of Hidekatsu MIZUGUCHI, the lord of Shibata Domain. His wife was a daughter of Nagayoshi TAKAKURA, Gon Dainagon (Provisional Chief Councilor of State). His sons were Michishige NAKANOIN, Naidaijin, Sadayori NONOMIYA, Gon Chunagon (Provisional Vice-councilor of State); he also had an adopted son, Michifuku ATAGO, Gon Dainagon.

He was conferred a peerage in 1613. After the conferment, he was promoted from Jiju (Imperial Household Agency staff) to Sakone no Shosho (Minor Captain of the Left Division of Inner Palace Guards) and Sakone no Chujo (Middle Captain of the Left Division of Inner Palace Guards), and he joined Kugyo in 1631 as he became Sangi (Councilor). Later, he became Toka no sechie (Circle-Dancing Banquet: the last of the First Month's three great banquets [sechie] which formerly took place from the fourteenth to the sixteenth of January in the Shishinden [the Throne Hall] of the Imperial Court under the moonlight) Geben (a Kugyo who supervised the Imperial Court Ceremony outside of Jomei Gate) and Gon Chunagon, and was promoted to Gon Dainagon in 1647.
